Stop Drinking Starbucks Matcha.

August 21, 2021 by Madison Schott

Matcha has so many amazing benefits but you are not getting any of them when you drink matcha from Starbucks.

Their matcha is more sugar than actual matcha powder. A whopping 28g of sugar in just 16oz drink to be exact. At that point, you mine as well just have a donut for breakfast.

As you can see, sugar is the first ingredient in this “matcha tea blend”.

You are doing your body way more harm than good when drinking this! Matcha found at other fast casual places like Dunkin Donuts and your local coffee shops are just as bad. Unless you go to a health cafe or high quality tea shop, the blends they use probably have more sugar than matcha.

In addition, the matcha at Starbucks and these other places isn’t organic.

If you try to order Starbucks matcha without any sugar, just know that the sugar is in the matcha itself. So you may not be adding any extra sugar, but you are still getting the same 28g of sugar. Some employees may not realize that there is sugar in the blend itself.

Keep in mind that if you add any type of syrup to your matcha latte, like vanilla, you are consuming another 20g of sugar, meaning 48g of sugar total in one medium sized drink.

Instead of ordering matcha when you are out, try making it at home. Matcha has lots of amazing benefits when it is organic, shade-grown, and of the highest quality. It is rich in polyphenols, cancer-fighting catechins, EGCG, and l-theanine.

The brand I always recommend people is Pique. They screen their matcha for heavy metal, radioactivity (important when getting matcha from Japan), and pesticides. You can even find a full report right on their website.

Because of the high quality of their matcha, it is high in all of the beneficial compounds that make matcha so good for us. Without high quality matcha, we are missing out on all of the neuroprotective and cancer-fighting qualities.

Be sure to check out Pique and use the code MADISONMAE for 5% off.
